It's been a hard year for many residents of Madison County, Illinois.
Unemployed and chronically underemployed friends and neighbors are ready to work but are not finding jobs to replace those they have lost during the economic downturn.
That's why this piece of good news from Census 2010 comes at a great time. Recruiting efforts for census workers have resumed and the local Complete Count Committee will need thousands of applicants from our region.
Residents can apply for jobs by calling 1-866-861-2010. They may also call the Edwardsville, Illinois office directly at 618-307-3730.
Census Takers, or Enumerators, will earn $11.50 per hour and will be reimbursed for mileage. Their pay and the length of their employment will vary by position.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a background test. Selected applicants will be fingerprinted.
